Workouts to Increase Vertical Jumps – Free Workout Link
Weight training, plyometrics, sprinting, high rep aerobic workouts – there are a seemingly endless numbers of workouts to increase vertical jump height. The most popular would have to be weight training and plyometrics – so, I’ll concentrate on those. (make sure you check out the link to the free workout below!)
A quick note on explosion – Strength + Speed = Explosion. If you are lacking in either department if will make it much harder to jump high. Proper weight training will provide the strength and plyometrics will provide the speed – that’s why it’s important to include both in your workouts to increase vertical jump height.
Now, I mentioned “proper” weight training and what I meant by that is proper technique. You don’t want to do standard bodybuilding lifting, you want power-lifting – the kind of training that focuses heavily on building strength. A good thing to remember during lifts is to do a slow negative and a fast, explosive positive. This will keep your muscles responsive, explosive and strong!
Plyometrics are going to give your leg muscles the speed they need to harness all of that strength you’re building! Plyometrics train your muscles to be more reactive – I like to compare it to pulling the trigger on a gun – this type of training is going to let you hit the ground and jump again much faster! Include this in your workouts to increase vertical jump height and you’ll notice the difference quite quickly!
