What To Do About Your XBox 360 3 Flashing Red Lights
You are probably reading this because your XBox 360 has the 3 flashing red lights and you don’t know what to do. Don’t feel lonely because about 35% of all XBox owners have the same problem. I am going to tell you what I did when I had the red ring of death.
My XBox 360 was still under warranty the first couple of times it happened to me, so it was fixed by Microsoft for free. When I sent it in to be fixed I did have to wait for almost two months to get it back, but at least I didn’t have to pay for it.
I was told that it was going to cost me about $140.00 plus shipping the last time it happened. I knew that it had to be less expensive to find a way to repair my XBox 360 red ring of death myself.
The first thing I did was a Google search on “how to fix your 360 red ring of death“. I came up with a lot of different information. It took me a while to sort through all of it and some of it was good and some was not so good.
One of the methods wanted me to bake my console in the oven for 5 to 10 minutes. I thought that I had an XBox 360, not a cake, so that one wasn’t going to work for me.
Another method required me to get out my soldering iron and open the case of my console. That was not going to work for me either because I can’t solder that well.
Yet another method wanted me to wrap my console in a blanket or towel until it overheated. I didn’t want to burn up my XBox 360, I just wanted to fix my red ring of death fast.
According to most of the sources I found, the purpose behind the methods mentioned above is to melt the solder joint between the graphics card and the motherboard on the XBox 360. Supposedly the joint is weak and that is what is causing the problem . The way I figured it though, if I used one of the above methods it would melt other solder joints too and my XBox 360 would still have the ring of doom.
One of my buddies told me about the way he fixed his XBox 3 rings of death and said that it had worked great for him. I decided to give it a try and it worked great for me too. I figured a lot of other people would appreciate finding a good way to fix their XBox 360 themselves so I thought I would share what I found.
