What Kind Of Massage Do You Get From A Massage Chair?
Anybody who’s been to a massage therapist for a back massage knows that there is more than one option. There are actually dozens of different ways to get your back rubbed. Different cultures all over the world as well as different schools of medical thought provide us with many kinds of massage techniques.
So if you buy a massage chair, which technique do you get? Of course, all brands of chairs are different. Most, however, do offer at least a few different massage options.
Rolling is one option that chairs usually offer. It isn’t exactly what it sounds like. It does not simply mean that rollers go up and down your spine. Instead, it means that you feel what seems to be a hand pressing firmly first on one side of your spine and then on the other. The “hands” alternate giving you an even and relaxing rub down.
Compression is similar to rolling, but you feel the “hands” on both sides of your spine at the same time. They gently press on the muscles along side your spine which improves circulation and mobility.
Percussion gives you the feeling of someone tapping gently with the sides of their hands. This tapping sensation penetrates deep into muscles. This type of massage is used frequently with athletes.
Kneading feels like someone pressing on your back with their thumbs and moving them in a circular motion. It’s done on both sides of the spine at the same time. This motion lifts and stretches muscles which improves circulation.
