Reiki is the ancient Japanese art of healing and personal integration. It has the same benefits as traditional massage in that it alleviates pain, de-stresses your body, strengthens your immune system, heals acute and chronic illnesses and helps improve conditions such as recovery from trauma and surgery. Reiki was originally founded by Dr. Mikao Usui from Japan. In his system, Reiki is divided into 3 levels or degrees. The first level comprises of the basic teachings of Reiki, code of conduct and learning the skills to channel Reiki energy. The second level involves learning how to use the Reiki symbols and further enhance your ability to channel Reiki energy. You can even learn how to do it for someone at a distance and not just for someone near you. The third level is the highest one where you are trained to become a Reiki Master. This qualifies you to conduct Reiki classes for other people. Over time, other Reiki practitioners have developed the system such that some trainings now have more than 3 levels.
Reiki is based on the belief that the human body is a field of energy that allows it to function in good health. But over time, this energy can become blocked or weaken, causing the body to fall sick. The word ‘Reiki’ means ‘universal life energy’ in Japanese. Reiki teaches that the body has 7 energy centers, called chakras, which when energized will allow a stronger flow of energy. This energy flow of the body will increases the experiences of good things like pleasure, safety, communication, creativity etc. Thus the use of Reiki is not only limited to physical healing only.
To enroll into a Reiki course, you need to either join a Reiki school or take up a course on Reiki online. There are pros and cons for both options. In joining a school, you get to follow live teaching and receive attunement (impartation of the ability to channel Reiki energy) from a Reiki Master. You will also be awarded a certificate upon successful completion of the course. Different schools have different requirements, syllabuses and levels of training. It follows then that costs and duration also differ.
In taking up an online course, you get to learn Reiki in the comfort of your own home and have flexible hours. The costs of online courses are generally cheaper than attending a Reiki school. But you do not receive personal attunement and need to learn the techniques on your own.Reiki
