Painting Lessons in Acrylic – Portraits
When looking for painting lessons in acrylic, it is frustrating to only find teaser lessons and fast speed “show off” lessons. All you want to do is learn how to paint a portrait. Maybe you have been working with landscapes and are ready to take the next step in developing your artistic talent. But where does one find tutorials that will show you step by step how to do it? Forget about learning bone structure and muscle tone, let’s get to the painting! There are a lot of instructional books and tutorials that teach portrait painting, but most lack essential things like, how to get the sketch on the canvas, if you can’t draw! Or how to use basic color mixing to achieve any skin or fur color.
I recall, when I got to the point in my artistic career when I wanted to evolve into a portrait painter I had so many questions. How do you do painting from photos, how to get from the photo stage to finished painting? I wanted to learn what colors are used to create realistic skin tones, how to create shadow, what makes one painting look alive while others look flat, and how to make roundness in human features. When painting animals, do I need to know animal’s anatomy, what about painting white and black fur, and how to get that sparkle in the eyes that so often brings a painting to life. Most of all I wanted to know how to paint a portrait in the simplest methods!
I taught myself how to “cheat” my way to success. And now you can too! With my methods, you just might have your acrylic portrait finished in just 1 day! Really, you can. With my methods, you can create a “base” painting then add details and just work it until you feel you have reached your masterpiece stage. I show several artistic secrets that allow you to draw and paint without any previous skill or knowledge of art. With video lessons, there is now guessing, you see exactly how things are done.
I can’t think of a more personal gift or talent than to capture a loved one or loved pet on canvas. This is especially true of pets that are literally peoples “children” or are deceased! People go absolutely crazy over such gifts. To be honest, when presented with a pet portrait of a deceased animal, the owner is usually overcome with emotion because of the thoughtfulness of the gift.
On the other hand if you want to learn portrait painting for commission, know that people pay money for pet portraits! Nothing can bring back their pet, but a farmable piece of artwork, to them is priceless. While it is my experience that painting human portraits is more challenging than pets, with video step by step lessons, it is achievable.
