Muay Thai Boxing in Portland
The holidays are right around the river bend and we want to look good for our family or a loved one in which we haven’t seen for a while. So what do we do? We want to lost weight by some exercise. Want to get rid of those love handles? There’s nothing like good old fashioned Muay Thai boxing that will get rid of those nasty things in a short period of time.
When I first found a great Muay Thai boxing school in Portland, I started going religiously- 4 times a week at one hour each. In that first month, I noticed my sides were getting all trimmed up and I was more in shape. I also noticed the same thing happening to other students who were attending classes as often as I was. I didn’t necessarily change my diet, but all that workout was detrimental in me losing the extra chub on my sides.
Muay Thai in general is a great art to learn. Finding a good Muay Thai school in Portland isn’t a hard thing to do, but finding some good, credible, instructors who are certified to teach the art. As a matter of fact, the person who introduced Muay Thai in the United States in 1968 comes up to the Portland area to teach weekend seminars on Muay Thai. The last time he came up here, he made it to the academy/school in which I train in. Almost setting a record number of students attended in one day, there was roughly 75 people taking instruction from the man.
Aside from credibility, I think it’s also important to train with folks who are willing to put aside ego and learn from anyone. I take that into account heavily each and every time I step into the training area. Nothing is worse than going to a Muay Thai school and dreading the fact that you will pair up with someone who really has no patience with you and is somewhat out to get you. That’s no fun. So, camaraderie is important. And this particular Muay Thai school has it.
