Is the Raw Food Diet for You?
Have you ever thought about starting a raw food diet? I used to scoff at the notion. Sounded like a bunch of quackery to me. But with all the sugar, nitrates, fats, and allergenics that hide in prepackaged food, I did a rethinking of the notion of eating raw food.
If you are like me you are in about the same condition as you were the same time last year. Or let’s make that if you are like I was, you will be in the same condition next year too. The big change in my life was starting a raw food diet. I can give you some free advice – start slow and remember that you only have to eat 75 percent of your food raw in order to be considered a raw foodist.
The detoxing effect is amazing. At first there might be a little gas factor but that is a matter of hours, or maybe a day. Then you just starting feeling lighter, better, and more energetic. And an interesting side effect is that raw food living costs a lot less than regular groceries.
It’s a lot less hassle cooking raw food. How about making a pie in 10 minutes? And it’s a pie that tastes as good as the tradional kind of pie you eat – maybe even better. I think it’s better.
Getting Started
As I mentioned you can start slow. Dinner is the big meal, so let that one be the last meal you change. And if you don’t want to go the distance with being a raw foodist, you don’t have to change dinner at all.
Try eating raw foods throughout the day. If you work outside the house, take carrots, apples, grapes or dried fruit as snacks instead of the usual fare of pastries or doughnuts. If you go out for lunch, get a salad. If you pack a lunch, include sprouts and fruit with it. Steamed brown rice and vegetables and a little fruit might not sound very interesting, but it’s a good energy lunch. If you’re like many people, those fast food lunches make you want to crawl under your desk and take a nap in the afternoon! They make you sluggish and tired. A lighter lunch of raw foods can keep you energized throughout the day.
By taking a variety of raw foods with you to work, you can munch periodically during the day. Sometimes it’s better to eat to avoid getting hungry. If we let ourselves go too long until we get ravenous, that’s when it’s easier to make poor food choices. Eating raw foods periodically throughout the day also keeps your metabolism humming along, and keeps your blood sugar at steady levels.
