How To Lay Ceramic Tiles
Regardless of whether your remodeling plans include a new tile floor or wall, the priciest part of getting it done is paying someone else to do it. If you do it yourself, however, you could save a bundle. The problem is that most people just don’t know how to get started.
The very first thing you need to do is to measure the area you want to cover with tile. Most tiles are either twelve or eighteen inches square. You need to be very careful while taking your measurements to be absolutely sure that you order the right number of tiles.
If the area that you’re doing is on the floor, lay out all of your tiles just how you want them (with the exception of the end and corner pieces that will have to be cut). Make sure it’s the way you want it to be or make any changes that you want before actually setting the tiles in place.
On the other hand, if you’re doing a wall you can’t lay out the tiles before you start. What you should do, however, is to put up guide lines to make sure you get your tiles lined up perfectly. Follow your guide lines carefully and don’t use any adhesive until you’re sure each tile is in its proper place.
After you’ve got your tiles locked in place, put the grout between them. Be sure to let it dry for a day before trying to clean up any stray smears of grout. If you’re careful to keep your work area clean as you apply the grout, there will be a lot less to clean up later.
Figuring out how to lay ceramic tile yourself sounds like it can be hard, but it really isn’t. With some good instructions and a little determination, you can do all the work yourself, save a bundle and still have a professional looking end result.
