How to Get a Tax Credit for Pellet Stove Purchase
For homeowners who purchase a 75% efficient biomass-burning stove in 2009 and 2010, the Federal Economic Stimulus legislation includes a 30% tax credit (up to $1,500) for stoves or inserts added to existing homes. It can now cost you less to install and heat your home with a pellet stove this winter. The tax credit is a deduction,dollar for dollar, from the amount of taxes you owe.Purchase a pellet stove or insert prior to December 31, 2010.
The Federal Economic Stimulus bill requires that your stove purchase must meet at least a 75% EPA emissions burning efficiency. The stove manufacturer must certify in writing that the stove meets these requirements.The manufacturer must provide certification that the product was tested for at least a 75% efficiency rating using the lower heating value, or the heat value of a burning process where none of the water vapor resulting from the burning is condensed out.
