The internet can be very useful in saving time and steps while acquiring your passport. But, it can’t be completely accomplished on line.

But, you have to go to a passport office or post office to present your documents and prove who you are. That is where your documents are marked as valid and where you sign them, proving your signature as well.
After that, any forms you have gained from the whole process will then have to be mailed to the U.S. Department of State.
You can get your passport without using the internet, but it would be more work. And if you need to get an expedited passport, you will definitely get better results with better turn-around times on the internet than if you use the normal channels.
