Fighting Parking Tickets – Some Common Questions

Some people ask if the mistakes on the ticket will help them when fighting parking ticket and get their ticket dismissed. The truth is that it depends on the mistake. For instance, a wrong description of your car (2-door instead of 4-door), wrong year of the car, incorrect color of the vehicle, etc., may simply not be enough for getting you out of this ticket.

Another common question is how to proceed if you have received a ticket that you know you should not have received. For instance, you never visited the city that is marked on the ticket. What to do now? First of all, you should not ignore such a ticket and try to find out why you received it. Most likely it was a mistake in the license plate number that an officer made while filling out the details.

Another question is whether you should try to contest your ticket in court, especially if it is a more costly ticket (e.g., parking in a handicapped space). If you know that you are not at fault (e.g., parking at night in a barely illuminated parking area with faded signs, etc.), then you may want to go to court and contest your ticket.
