About Self Cleaning Cat Boxes

Everybody hates cleaning the cat box. Luckily, you aren’t doomed to having to do this horrible chore just because you have a cat in your home. You can get a litter box that cleans up all by itself. If you are a little bit leery about whether or not the cat box would do a good job of cleaning itself or whether or not it would stink, it might help to better understand how self cleaning litter boxes work.

First of all, you don’t put actual cat litter in a self washing litter box. The granules that you’ll be using will come with your cat box. They are washable and reusable. This is not only good for the environment since you won’t be throwing away cat litter any more, but also good for your wallet since you won’t have to buy any litter any more either.

The cat box will only clean when you tell it to. You can program it to clean itself on a schedule or, if you prefer, just push a button whenever you want it to go through its cleaning cycle. The first thing it will do is lower a scoop into the granules and remove any solids. A special solution will liquefy these solids and they will be flushed away into your sewer system or septic tank. Then cleaning fluid will wash over the granules taking away any urine and leaving a perfectly clean cat box.

Having the litter box go through its cleaning cycle a couple of times per day should be enough to keep it clean and odor free.
