A New Option for Doing Laundry!

Until recently, I had no idea that an appliance like a washer dryer combination existed!  Sometimes people talk about a combination and they mean a particular matched set or maybe a stacked washer and dryer, one on top of the other.  What I’m talking about is one unit that does both the washing and drying of clothes. Everything happens in one tub, so there’s no moving clothes from the washer to the dryer.

The combo unit is portable, usually with wheels in place or easily attachable, and is small enough to be rolled into a corner or a closet or under a cabinet when not in use. Dimensions are typically around 34″ high x 24″ wide x 24″ deep, so a footprint not unlike a good sized television! They run off a standard 3-prong electrical outlet, and can easily use a regular sink faucet for the water source and the sink drain for run-off.  Drying is done by condensing the water vapor out of the air circulating through the clothes, so there’s no need for a vent to the outside.

These appliances are ideal for people in condos or apartments or RVs who want an alternative to going to the laundry room or to a public laundromat. You need to be aware that these mini laundry units don’t have the load capacity of the regular washers, and are best used by one or two people doing multiple small loads, rather than a large family with large loads to do. The washing and drying cycles also take longer than standard appliances.

With these trade-offs in mind, however, you get a laundry appliance that uses much less water and electricity, is easier on clothes, is portable, and gives you the freedom to do laundry at your convenience in the comfort of your own residence.
